Wait a minute, I didn't install MobilMe!

Sorry folks, I’m a little slow on this one. I meant to post about it before, but haven’t had the chance.

How many of you like having software installed when you didn’t ask for it? I hope none of you raised your hands.

If you aren’t familiar with MobileMe, it’s a “Cloud Computing” service that keeps your calendars, contacts and folders synched across Macs and or PCs, as well as mobile devices. Of course, for an individual, it costs $99 a year. Not something I signed up for, and it’s not something that I plan to sign up for.

So why is it on my computer? Well, Apple figured that I should install it, and when I updated to iTunes 7.7, they went ahead and made sure I had it. Of course, they didn’t ask me.

Now, I can’t say for sure that there wasn’t a clause in the iTunes user agreement that allowed them to do it, but I can say that when their software update window came up, there was no checkmark for “MobileMe”.

The good news is that it can be removed. Now, I guess I’ll have to see if it comes back in the next update.

If you use iTunes in Windows, and you've just updated, then its a good bet that it's on your system too.

This is ridiculous. It's

This is ridiculous. It's bad enough that I have to specifically tell it not to install iTunes when it wants to upgrade QuickTime on one of my test machines.

Agreed!

I agree with you 100%. I hate that after selecting not to install safarai, I still have to deselect it every time that I update iTunes.

Thanks for the comment Scott!
