A Free, portable Anti-Virus

imageToday I wanted to talk about one of the really handy portable applications that is available from Portable Apps.

Have you ever worked on a computer, not yours of course, that you suspect of having been taken over by a pesky virus or today's most popular spyware? Trust me, I've seen my fair share of infected computers.

In Deep Trouble on Wallpaper Tuesday

image

Back in November I posted a wallpaper from Fallout 3, and mentioned how I was going to have to wait a bit to get it. Well, evidently I’ve been a good boy, because Santa gave it to me for Christmas.

Left 4 Dead is Live, but the Demo is Dead

Well, it looks like I was right about the demo, mine says “pre-load complete” now, and when I double click on it, I receive the message that “a locked copy for Left 4 Dead has already been installed on your computer. Purchase it now and start playing immediately”. Oh well.

New Version of Windows Live Writer Beta - But Beware

image

If you already use Windows Live Writer Beta, then you’ll be prompted to upgrade when you open it. If you don’t use Live Writer Beta, and you blog, then you really should give it a try. I’ve been using nothing but Live Writer since it’s release, and have been really happy with it. You can download the installer here.

ffmpeg cheat sheet.

Linux users are probably already familiar with this tool, Windows users probably less so.

ffmpeg is a cross-platform command line tool that can convert just about any format of audio/video/image to just about any other format. It can extract and insert audio from your video, break your video up in to a series of images and even compile images in to a video. Whatever you can think of to do with your multimedia files, ffmpeg can more than likely handle it.

Where does Outlook Store it's outlook.ost file in Windows Vista

image

If you're like me, you're constantly going to look at the offline folders file, outlook.ost, to see exactly how large your offline mail is. Or you may be looking to delete extend.dat, or any of the other cache files. Now, along comes Vista, and things are a little different. Well have no fear, it's not too hard to find.

Make some cash with CrossLoop.

image I could swear one of us blogged about CrossLoop in the past, but a quick search of the site didn't find the post. Care to help me out, Mike?

Ubisoft downloads a crack to get around their own DRM.

Apparently Ubisoft games (I don't own any) use DRM that checks to see if the CD is in the drive before it will let you play.

This is the case for Rainbow 6: Vegas2. This game is also offered on IGN's Driect2Drive store, sans the check-for-CD DRM of course. So, pay for the game, download the game, play the game without a CD, right?

Not so fast!
